GARRETT — Renee Isham opened Dot’s Eatery in downtown Garrett in early June to honor her mother, Dorothy Chew.
“The idea began a couple years ago,” said Renee Isham of opening her own restaurant. Her mother did not live long enough to see that dream come true, but Isham knows she is smiling down on her every day. Her photo is on display at the front of the cafe at 208 S. Randolph Street.
Isham previously worked for the Bread Basket in Auburn. During the past 10 years, she washed dishes, served meals and eventually handled most of the operation for the last owner, who closed the restaurant in May.
